How To Survive 8th Grade

Hi, my name is Jillian and I am an 8th grade student at AdVENTURE STEM. I have been a part of this program for 2 years and I can safely say that I have never been to a school as good as AdVENTURE. I have learned so many things and made so many memories that I will cherish forever. During my time as an 8th grader, I have realised that we don’t have much time until we’re thrown into the big world of High School, so we must make our last year count. In an environment like AdVENTURE, you learn to not think of your classmates as friends, but family. Because even though you will argue from time to time, you know that for every bad memory there are a million great ones. Now, surviving 8th grade wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but with the help of my friends and teachers I was able to make it through the year. Now, I have made a list of some tips that will hopefully help guide the future AdVENTURE 8th graders through their final year of middle school.

Tip #1: Read Ms. Garcia’s blog and website

One thing that I have learned throughout middle school is that when Ms. Garcia assigns a project or assignment, it is in your best interest that you to read over the project details on her website. By doing this, you can prevent yourself from dealing with an angry Ms. Garcia because you didn’t read the website and asked a stupid question. This can also prevent you from having to spend 5 patriot bucks for each stupid question that might be asked.

Tip #2: Never forget to do blogs and BirdBrain

Blogs and birdbrain are probably some of the easiest assignments that you can get in AdVENTURE, yet so many people tend to forget about them. Engineering blogs and BirdBrain are due Friday at 2:30 and science blogs are due on Sunday at Midnight. It is probably a good idea to get your Bird Brain done on Monday, that way you can avoid forgetting about it. Every Friday in Engineering is blog day, so within that class period, it is best to make sure that you GET IT DONE because once a zero, always a zero.

Tip #3: Don’t sweat the small stuff

When it comes to things like grades, remember not to worry too much if you get a couple of points taken off on an assignment. If you are not happy with your grade, then you can always redo it within a week of the due date. And if it’s the first grade in the grade book, then you know that there will be other assignments that will bring your grade up. Just make sure that the assignment gets done in the first place and you won’t have any problems.

Tip #4: Be social and make every moment count

This is your final year of middle school, so make sure that you make as many memories as you can. Participate in class activities and be social with the rest of your class. You want to make sure that you stay social with your classmates because after the year is over, there is no guarantee that you will all get to hang out again. This is also important because when you’re older, you’ll want to be able to look back and remember how many good memories you have with your friends.

Tip #5: Get involved

One thing that we were worried about through middle school was what it would be like in high school because we won’t be with the same people every class. One thing that you should definitely do as an 8th grader is get involved in things like school activities. One great way to make friends is by trying out for sports teams. That way you can get to know people from both AdVENTURE and Herman. Another way to get involved is by participating in things like spirit days and school dances.

As you can see, there are many things that go into surviving 8th grade. Overall, it was probably my favorite school year so far. I got to become even closer with all of my classmates and I had teachers that were able to help me out and prepare me for what’s to come in high school. I know that everything i’ve learned from my two years at AdVENTURE will be taken on with me through the rest of my life and I can not be more appreciative for everything that this program has done for me. If you follow all of these tips, I guarantee that your 8th grade year will be absolutely unforgettable.
